VA: Organizations Drunk Driving

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)

AIMS:
-Education (about dangers of drunk driving) advocacy and assistance.
-Strict policy in a variety of areas including illegal BAC of .08% or higher.
-Helping victims of drunk driving (includes family members and other loved ones of both innocent victims and guilty impaired drivers.
-Maintaining the minimum legal drinking age of 21 year
-Mandating alcohol breath-testing ignition interlock devices, for everyone convicted of driving while impaired.

Shift:
-Towards reducing the overall alcohol use. In 1985 MADD wanted to enforce criminalization of anyone who has been driving after drinking. Lightner stated that MADD "has become far more neo-prohibitionist than I had ever wanted or envisioned... I didnt start MADD to deal with alcohol, I started it because of the issue of drunk driving. That year Lightner left her position with MADD. Lightner was the original founder of MADD when her 13- year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver.
