the first one with LR is good because we don't know what the word is -- a bit of drama there, then the word is revealed.
the friction of the second one is kind of interesting too, but maybe the first one is better.

on "misfire" i think something between the bottom idea on "spark-misfire.jpg" and the middle of "misfire2.jpg" is a good idea, but it's better when you use part of the word to make the action, rather than adding letters. the top and bottom ideas on "misfire3.jpg" are good examples of this. consider using more than just the R though.

the bottom one could be nice because you may be able to get a flickering effect, depending on how quickly the opacity changes, but it may be hard to pull that off well. the top one is kinda good too.

the middle one is kind of nice, but why does it go "down" rather than up?
the bottom one makes good use of neg space and has a very nice spatial contrast.

the first one has some nice texture to it, but the ending needs work. those halftone dots could do something there. but you have lots of potential "combust" ideas...

the middle one with the two halves of the word rubbing against each other, is quite interesting.
